CURIOSITY CANVAS COLLECTION Exhibition was held for three days from 16th to 18th of November 2018 at Space O, Omotesando Hills, and ended up successfully. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the studio, we exhibited CANVAS CHAIR, as Gwenael Nicolas’ long-developed idea. Special 16 chairs with original covers provided by the brands and makers which are deeply related to Curiosity were shown altogether and entertained the guests at the venue.

“Silence and beauty should prevail over unnecessary revealing function.” CANVAS CHAIR was designed to embody the ideal object that Gwenael Nicolas believes. The chair is separated to a back pad and a seat pad when you sit in it, and it will turn back to an art piece when you stand up. (“ANGES” by NUNO )

CANVAS CHAIR is floating like a painting on canvas in the dark. Each brand revealed fully its origin, philosophy and technology, and inventive characters came out to live.

“PALAZZO” from Dolce&Gabbana: a chair covered with Broccatello silk made by Venetian traditional craftsmanship. The cover fabric flowing from seat to floor recalls the interior of a palace.

“MON CHAIR” from Moncler depicted “LONGUE SAISON”, the iconic down jacket as the root of the current brand identity. Seating with opened zipper shows their great sense of humor.

The guests enjoyed touching and seating on the actual chairs at the reception. Swarovski CANVAS CHAIR reveals hidden crystal when you sit on.

Shukou Tsuchiya, an artist demonstrated a live-painting performance at the venue reception. The art was slit, like a red ribbon on an opening ceremony, by Nicolas himself and turned into a CANVAS CHAIR afterwards. (PHOTO: TAKASHI IKEMURA)

Another amusement at the venue was virtual reality tour vividly showing overseas projects of by Curiosity, which also gained huge popularity.
