AIMA CHAIR FOR CONDE HOUSE

"THE VALUE OF THE MISSING PART"

Conde House, the Japanese wood furniture maker from Hokkaido released AIMA, a new wooden chair designed by Gwenael Nicolas, Curiosity.
The design is based on the concept of space, as the iconic element of the design is the space created between structural elements.

Traditionally Japanese furniture focus on the construction detail and the assemblage of the craftmanship. AIMA investigates another aspect of Japanese sensibility is the quality of the notion of absence and how a missing element can create an emotional reaction. The incomplete structure, challenging from a structural point of view, brings a different dynamic to the perception of the chair.

Conde House based in Asahikawa, Hokkaido developed over the years a unique know-how on wood furniture, always with concern on respecting the development of the wood industry, about 50% of its production is presently sourced from Hokkaido. The collaboration opens-up new ideas on the construction process but also on defining typologies for different applications.
